monte testaccio

gouache on bristol, 7 x 10 in.

This place is located in Testaccio, a neighborhood a little bit southeast of central Rome. It's basically an ancient trash dump where they tossed crushed olive oil vessel shards. after hundereds of years, it developed into a 3330 ft-perimeter, 150 ft-high mound. Over time, people have dug out sections to build apartments in. There are also many auto repair shops and glamorous nightclubs around the base.
